Please let us hear your feelings about appearing in Shugo Chara The Musical.
- This is my first musical, so I'm really excited. I will try to do my best with singing, dancing and my lines.
Are there common points and differences between you and the character you portray?
- A common point is that we aren't honest! Really, I wish I was more honest. As for differences, the Guardian character is really cool! I was never told that I'm cool (laughs).
Please tell us about hardships and joys you encountered during practice.
- There were almost no hardships until now (laughs). I'm really enjoying the practice! But my voice is not very loud, so that might probably be one thing that bothers me.
Please recommend something that we should pay attention to when in the theatre.
- Acting would be first, of course, but please check out the dancing and songs as well. So, I would say everything (laughs).
INTERVIEW
How did you feel when you were picked in the audition?
- All the people who came to audition were much better than I thought, so I wasnt even thinking that I could be picked, let alone for the role of Amu-chan. And though I was chosen... I was even more surprised when I heard I will be Amu-chan...
How did you react when you heard you'd play Hinamori Amu?
- I was shocked. When they said "Hinamori Amu's role will be Maeda...", I was like, "Yes...what?!" I didn't really get it, but I knew I'd have to work hard.
How do you feel now that rehearsals have started?
- When we first met for rehearsal, I'd only read the script, so I didn't know what to expect. But when we stepped onto the stage, I had to start memorizing lines and positions, so I felt pressure... I realized that it was gonna be hard.
How are you creating/portraying your character?
- I was watching the Shugo Chara anime before, so I checked what personality Amu-chan should have and had some thoughts about how to act her role. I realized though, that I just can't speak in a cool and swift way like she does. So, currently I'm watching and studying the anime again to find out how to speak cool like her.
How are you memorizing your lines and the choreography?
- Until now, I've been memorizing lines while rehearsing, but that's not possible now. So, I asked co-star Saho Akari-chan to help me. Or, I mutter the lines to myself while moving (from place to place). As for the dancing, I'm really a slow learner, so I need to work even harder. I imagine the situations and practice them in front of a big mirror in our house.
Have you befriended other people in the cast?
- I think I'm just slightly older than the average age of the cast, so everyone is like my school friends. We also have fun during breaks or such, talking about school or warning each other if there's something difficult coming up in rehearsal.
What are your impressions of the other cast members?
- Kairi is really interesting. I think he's a very mysterious person. Kuukai reminds me of a caring older brother. Ikuto is older, so I didn't know how to approach him in the beginning, but when I realized that he was funny, we became friends. Hidemi-chan is a girl acting as a boy, Tadase-kun. During breaks, she reverts back to being a girl, and is very funny and girlish, but when she's on the stage, she's cool. Both Rima&Yaya are very similar to their characters. Utau-chan is a cute and kind elder sister, and I really admire her.
How did you feel when you put on your costume for the first time at Nakayoshi Festival 2009?
- The audience laughed when they saw a pink wig...So I told myself I have to show enough acting skill to not make them laugh during the play. I did my best with singing, but honestly, I think it could've been better. So, I need to work harder on projecting my voice, so I fit well into the collective.
What do you think about your costume and wig?
- At first I found the wig amusing. I've never dyed my hair before, but I felt like it would be nice to dye it pink. My family laughed when they saw me the first time. As for the school uniform, I'm still a student, so I'm used to it. Amulet Heart's pink outfit seems normal to me now, but I'm afraid everyone will laugh again when I wear the "spade" or something. I'd really like to try the spade outfit. I'm not a cool character, and when I talk, I sound childish, so I'd like to become cooler.
Please say few words to the people who will come to the theatre.
- I would be happy if you observe not only the play itself, but also us actors uniting our hearts while singing songs and dancing happily; and think about the characters' feelings when he or she says her lines. I'm almost sure I will cry at the last performance. I'm really a big crybaby. The last performance will be a disaster for me, really. I'll probably cry so hard I won't be able to breathe.
